These sixty years 1910’s to 1970’s were some of the most pivital for black thought on politics, philosophy, and economics. Randolph moved from a radical socialist to a leftist Democrat in his career. Dave I enjoyed your analysis. However I have to offer one critique. Malcolm X idea of self determination didn’t come from A. Phillip Randolph it was all from the program of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. His motto of do for self was a staple teaching of the Nation of Islam. One of his more famous quotes was why should we wait on someone to do for us what we can do for ourselves.

I think the idea of do for self came from alot of people. Garvey, Randolph, and Muhammad. I will change the wording. Randolph was a big influence on Malcolm X. They were close personal friends.
